Abstract | Thirty four esophageal perforations were retrospectively analyzed. Conservative treatment was established in 4 (11.8%) patients, surgical treatment in 30 (88.2%). Postoperative complications were present in 20 (58.8%) patients. Eleven patients (32.3%) died. Mortality according to age, sex, site of perforation, previous esophageal diseases, etiology, clinical presentation, time elapsed to treatment and surgical procedure were not significant. Follow-up was possible in 12 patients (52.2% of the survivors). Six patients (50.0%) had an uneventful recovery, 4 patients (33.3%) developed esophageal stenosis. Two patients (16.7%) died in the follow-up period. |
