Orientational order studies by magneto-optical and light-effects in lyotropic liquid crystal

Abstract In this work we studied the propagation of the order induced in the isotropic phase of the lyotropic liquid crystal. the induced order was made by two different methods (light-effect - LE and magneto-optical effect - MOE) and the order propagation coefficient (D) was evaluated by using the same theory approach which is based on a diffusion-like equation. This theory shares a basic point of view: induced order is related only to the mechanical nature. We obtained that the propagation coefficient in pulsed light (LE) was similar to 10(-8) cm(2)/s and pulsed magnetic field (MOE) was similar to 10(-5) cm(2)/s. in this sense the order induced by the movement of ferrofluid inside of a disordered phase is faster (three orders of magnitude) than the order induced by light in the same phase.
